Outreach Officer

The project:

This is an R&D to make innovative and exciting Game Theatre* for and inspired by young people (14+) funded by Arts Council Wales. As part of this project we will run game tests with various youth groups across Wales in order to test the piece of game theatre we're developing.

*Game theatre is an emerging art form that fuses gaming with theatre. It is truly interactive with the audience playing an essential part by voting,completing tasks and/or managing resources that have a tangible effect on the story.

The roll:

The outreach officer will be responsible for recruiting game testers (aged 14-25), and organising dates and times for up to 6 game test sessions. They will set up connections with pre-existing youth groups across Wales who will make up our core game testers. For one open session at the Barry Memo, they will also recruit participants outside of pre-existing groups.

The outreach officer may also be required to undertake some evaluation tasks such as processing equality monitoring forms and participant feedback.

Person specifications:

passionate about innovate theatre that places the audience at its heart
experience working with young people in an outreach capacity
pre-existing links to one or more (under represented) youth groups
experience communicating through social media channels used by young people
current enhanced DBS check

Where?

The project will mainly be based at the Barry Memo in the Vale of Glamorgan though game test will happen across Wales. The outreach officer will work mostly remotely though it may be helpful to be local to South Wales.

How much time and money?

The outreach officer will be working an equivalent of two weeks for a total of £1100. This time can be managed flexibly. This is a freelance position.

When?

Initial writing phase w/c 21st November 2022

Up to 6 game tests between 28th November 2022 - 12th February 2023

Final writing phase w/c 20th Feb 2023

Fel rhan o’r prosiect, byddwn ni’n rhedeg prawf gemau gydag amryw o grwpiau ieuenctid o gwmpas Cymru i brofi’r darn o Theatr Gêm rydym ni’n datblygu.

*Mae Theatr Gêm yn ffurf gelfyddydol newydd sy’n uno chwarae gemau â theatr. Mae’n hollol ryngweithiol, gyda’r gynulleidfa yn chwarae rhan hanfodol trwy bleidleisio, gwblhau tasgau ac/neu reoli adnoddau a fydd yn cael effaith ar y stori.

Bydd y Swyddog Allgymorth yn gyfrifol am recriwtio profwyr gêm (oedran 14 - 25), a threfnu dyddiadau ac amseroedd am hyd at 6 sesiwn profi gêm. Bydden nhw’n creu cysylltiadau gyda grwpiau ieuenctid ar hyd Cymru a fydd yn wneud lan ein prif brofwyr. Ar gyfer un sesiwn yn y Barry Memo, bydd rhaid recriwtio pobl tu fas i grwpiau ieuenctid. Bydd efallai angen i’r Swyddog Allgymorth cyflenwi tasgau gwerthuso, fel prosesu ffurflenni cydraddoldeb ac adborth y cyfranogwyr.

Film-Maker

The project:

As part of this project we will run game tests with various youth groups across Wales in order to test the piece of game theatre we're developing.

The roll:

As part of this project, we would like to invite a film-maker to film up to two game tests, as well as interviews with the participants. This footage will be used for evaluation and marketing purposes. Therefore we would like you to create a highlight reel/trailer of the game tests that can be used to explain the project and to advertise it once it goes into full production further down the line.

Person specifications:

interested in innovate theatre that places the audience at its heart
experience filming workshop type sessions
experience creating marketing content/ highlight reels/ trailers
own filming equipment and editing software
current enhanced DBS check

How much time and money?

The film-maker will film up to two 2-hour game testing sessions plus interviews afterwards. Exact dates haven't been finalised yet. The total fee is £1000. This is a freelance position.
